Mourinho’s Masterclass Defeats Barca’s Beautiful Football[My Arse!] To Set Up Final With Mentor Van Gaal

April 30th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

Just when the world thought Barcelona could never be defeated and that they epitomised beautiful football, Jose Mourinho - who can now be hailed as one of the top four managers in the world(others being Sir Alex, Guus Hiddink and Don Fabio) - showed the world exactly how any team can be conquered by sheer logic.

Yes, what Mourinho did wasn’t tactical genius but implication of simple and pure logic. It’s obviously easier said than done, and you need good defenders every bit as much as good attackers. Luckily, Inter have them in abundance.

Last week Barca had to take the bus to Milan. Last night, Inter drove theirs to Catalonia and parked it in front of the goal. If you have two tall centre-backs jumping for headers against Bojan and Pedro, you’re going to make it hard for the opposition to cross the ball effectively.

If you have the excellent Esteban Cambiasso (the man dumped out of the Argentine national side by Diego Maradona) patrolling in front of the back four then it will be hard to thread passes through the middle. And if you have three players hovering over Lionel Messi every time he picks up the ball, then he’s unlikely to have much impact even if he is the best player in the world.

It musn’t be forgotten that the theory of total football that Barca so dearly claim to be their own and use it to act as the game’s moral defender was actually started and made famous by the legendary football club AJAX. It should be remembered that Barcelona actually started implying this theory after they hired a dutch coach from AJAX in the 70’s and their dream team of the early 90’s was led by an AJAX youth system product and legend Johan Cryuff, who, btw, earned 90% of his accolades in Holland itself.

Their constant tripping over, like the grounds had a butter layer, against Arsenal and then Inter really makes me feel sick. All their claims and drama of being so holy only makes you hate them more. I won’t even mention Busquets ridiculous play-acting!

Obviously for Mourinho this was a dream come through. After being shown the door by the Barca bosses very shabbily, he’s definitely had his revenge. The Translator jumped and celebrated hailing it his greatest ever victory. It’s quite surprising though, that a man - who was mentored at Barcelona who play the free flowing game, by the Dutch coach Van Gaal and England’s Bobby Robson, both of whom play/ed a fairly attractive brand of football - has such a tactical yet dull, boring style of football.

And what Mourinho has done is book himself a seat at the Madrid dug-out. Real Madrid FC must have loved every bit of what he has done - defeated Barcelona, defeated Barcelona in the Champions League, jumped and celebrated wildly in front of the 90,000+ Barca fans at Camp Nou, publicly emphasized his hatred once again for Catalonians, declared that he’d never, ever coach Barcelona and not to mention his previous achievements which include 2 Portuguese League titles and a Champions League with minnows Porto , 1(possible 2) Serie A title(s) and a UCL final after nearly 30 years and 2 UCL semis for Chelsea along with 2 BPL titles(something they craved for over 50 years!).

This means there’s only one way Mourinho’s heading, unless the much speculated resignation of Sir Alex Ferguson stops him at the crossroads …

3-0 Up At OT United Park The Bus. And Then … ZE GERMANS ARRIVE!

April 8th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

Line Up(ratings/10):-

Manchester United : VDS(7) ; Evra(6) - Vidic(7) - Rio(6) - Rafael(7) ; Valencia(8) - Gibson(6) - Fletcher(6) - Carrick(6) - Nani(9) ; Rooney(8)

Subs : O’Shea(5) - Giggs(5) - Berba(0)

Formation : 4-5-1 [changed to 4-3-3 , 4-5-0]

Bayern Munich : Butt(4) ; Lahm(6) - Van Buyten(6) - Demichellis(5) - Hadbuster(5) ; Robben(8) - Van Bommel(6) - Schweinsteiger(6) - Ribery(7) ; Muller(5) - Olic(7)

Subs : Altintop(7) - Gomez(6) - Pranjic(5)

Formation : 4-4-2

The game kicked off to an electrifying atmosphere at the Theatre Of Dreams. Despite of the 2-1 loss suffered by United just a few days ago in the League, there was absolutely no shortage of optimism being displayed by fans. The announcement of Wayne’s selection was enough to leave them all in a frenzy. The noise in the stadium had reached deafening levels. A mate back here, who had gone to the MUCB in Mumbai said he’d never felt such an atmosphere before in a pub, cafe or any sort of public gathering.

United started the game with great intensity moving ahead like a pack of hungry dogs. And well, that paid off. SAF’s gameble paid off. Darren Gibson, whose inclusion had raised a few eye-brows, had surpised Bayern’s goal-keeper to score a cleanly hit goal on his bottom left. Rafael played the ball to Rooney, who brilliantly passed the ball to Gibson, who, to the surprise of Butt took a shot straight towards the bottom left corner leaving him astonished and putting United in the driver’s seat. Three minutes and United back into the tie, with the game very much open. Seventh minute - Valencia gets the ball, teases Badstuber on the right before delivering a near post ball to Nani, who scores with a brilliant back heel, not dissimilar to Joe Cole’s effort at the weekend. Brilliant stuff! 2-0 in under 7 minutes and leading 3-2 on agg. Or wait, was it two goals too early? Well, Bayern were shell-shocked at that moment… with United riding high on the Rooney-inspired wave. Certainly, being in the right place at the right time without doing much was itself more than enough from Wayne Rooney. Bayern looked like they were unprepaired for United’s talisman to come on. Van Gaal certainly left dumb-founded!

Then the moment which every United fan feared. Rooney, challenged by Van Buyten goes down and well, doesn’t get up fully fit. From then on till the end of the half you only see him limping and struggling while Bayern’s players take full advantage to nudge and kick him whenever possible. Now they are Germans(well, not exactly, but still… ) and not some school kids who wouldn’t do that. Of course they would, they want him out as soon as possible! In the middle of all this Rafael, that litle bundle of talent runs through with the ball straight into Bayern’s nest, looks left, looks right, gets confused and shoots horrendously. I mean wtf was he thinking?! He had Rooney and Nani on his left. All he had to do was pass the freaking ball! Nevermind. With Bayern not really coming up with anything apart from a real sweet chance to Olic which was denied by a brilliant save from VDS, United moved the ball around with all the time in world.

Five minutes from half-time and United make it 3-0. Nani, once again! Valencia is again the architect, sending the ball past Demichelis before setting it up perfectly for Nani, who hammers the ball into the roof of the net! Brilliant, brilliant finish! United, leading 4-2 on agg seemed poised for a SF clash with Lyon!

Floating in their dream world United feel the game has been won and the SF berth booked. The park the bus.

And then, Ze Germans arrive! Read the rest of this entry »

Outclassed, Humiliated, Beaten. Really, They Just Shouldn’t Have Travelled! Barca 4-1 Ars

April 7th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

Barcelona have fairly outclassed Arsenal in the CL semi-final second leg tie. Messi scored 4 times to throw the gunners out of the CL and book his team a  place in the Semi-Final against Inter Milan, who defeated CSKA earlier in the night.

Teams:

Ars - ALMUNIA [Who conceded above his head, through his legs, to his right and left]

Silvestre. That’s it. I’m writing NO more.

Barca - MESSI. That’s it. I’m writing NO more.

Arsenal surprisingly took the lead in the 11th minute when after a ferociously quick counter attack, Walcott broke with lightning pace but almost made a meal of his pass for Bendtner, who saw his first shot blocked by Valdes but scored on the rebound. 2 minutes later, Silvestre [From Arsenal] passed the ball to Messi who unleashed an unstoppable shot into Almunia’s left corner. In the 35th minute, Arsenal’s defence again gets caught up and Messi scores again. Minutes later, Messi got a ball through Arsenal’s defence and was one on one against an onrushing Almunia, Messi calmly hit the ball past him over his head into the net.

Second half Arsenal were decent. Rather Barca slowed down their game. Bendtner hit the post too. However, nothing could stop that genius boy from scoring another, he burst forward with another trademark run, ran past Arsenal’s defence like they did not exist, got his first shot blocked by Almunia, however shot the next through his legs. Stunning. Pure Genius. Pure Class.

Any of you guys who still think Rooney’s better? I don’t.

It’s Barca vs Inter in the Semi-Final. Come this way for all your Comments!

Chelsea’s Horrible Defending Helps Inter Take a 2-1 Into The Second Leg

February 25th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

Big talks but with a cock! That was the story of last night’s CL Round of 16 tie between the special one and once upon a time his unbeatable Chelsea. That wasn’t just it, Chelsea GK Petr Cech went limping off with a bad looking injury.

However, all said and done, Chelsea did play the better and more creative football right after conceding withing 3 minutes of the start after Milito cut Terry and shot the ball past Cech into the Chelsea net. Chelsea dominated right after conceding. Drogba unleashed a fabulous free-kick in the first half from almost 35-yards out which hit the post. Close to the end of the first half, Kalou was, according to him, fouled in the 6-yard box by the wrong footed Walter Samuels. No penalty was awarded.

Not That We Like Stupid Fabainski, But The Referee Was Actually Quite Rubbish. Mr. Wenger Is Crying Right For A Change!

February 20th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

On wednesday night, we witnessed one of the WORST cases of refereeing we would ever come across! The referee for the game was Sweden’s Martin Hansson. The same ref who somehow managed to miss Henry’s clear hand ball in the WC qualifiers.

How the F*** could he allow Porto players to take the indirect kick so early!? Keeper Fabianski, who is not only unbelievably rubbish, but was also not ready at that time! How could a goal not go!? Firstly, even the indirect was controversial

Mr. Wenger, who moans about even the smallest of things was, for a change, absolutely right in complaining about the ref this time. He said, “It has to be clarified first of all how UEFA nominate referees for games. They have to be much more open on how they rate their referees. Where is the ranking of the referees? I believe too much has gone on in the last 30 years. What has happened is not good for football.”

Rooney Rooney Rooney!

February 17th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

Ideally this post should’ve been about last night’s game - Milan VS United and about Beckham’s fairytale re-union with father-figure SAF and boyhood club. Scoring their first goals away against Milan in more than 40 years of trying, Manchester United secured a monumental victory in the San Siro last night. But as I sat down, trying to gather words to describe United’s conquer over the Rossoneri At San Siro, trying to re-live one of the most entertaining matches in this years UCL. But all that could come to my mind was - WAYNE ROONEY!

Rather than a stonking, glorious, ruthless exhibition, the consensus amongst the purists is that Alex Ferguson’s men enjoyed the luck of the - presumably red - devil. And even the most loyal green-and-gold-eyed fan would have to concede they did have a fair share of fortune. They were fortunate that Paul Scholes can apparently shin the ball with more precision than most strikers, that the Milan full back Luca Antonini was lying injured on the touchline gifting Darren Fletcher the space to deliver a perfect cross for Scholes’s unorthodox equalizer, that never mind two, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, played as if in possession of three left feet.

The way he squandered chances during Milan’s early ascendancy, can it really be true that Arsene Wenger so desperately desires the Dutchman’s signature? After last night’s performance you’d have to wonder that if he does, it must solely be to make Nicklas Bendtner look a better player. And sure, they were lucky that Milan failed to make the most of a period in the first half when United’s defence played as if determined to give the ball away at every opportunity. Can you imagine Ronaldinho almost at his best for a good half-hour?

But most of all Manchester United had this enormous slice of providence: they had in their line up Wayne Rooney. Before yesterday’s game, Ferguson sharply reproached reporters for their constant praising of his forward. “You guys make out like he’s the greatest thing ever,” he mocked. Which only goes to prove that as far as the United manager is concerned the press can never do right. The trouble is, after watching last night it is hard to do anything other than lavish him with praise.

If you want to know how good Rooney was last night, imagine this: Read the rest of this entry »

F.C Barcelona Defeat United In The Champions League Final! Win Historic Treble!

    May 29th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Manchester United have been comprehensively defeated by Barcelona in te final of the Champions League, Rome. After defeating Chelsea last year at the same stage, United could not go on to win the competition twice in two years.

Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi scored the goals either side of half-time but to single those two out for special praise would be unfair on their team-mates, and particularly Xavi, who was simply awesome.

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo was very average. He lacked skill, determination and got increasingly frustrated every time he lost the ball, not that he ever had much of it to lose it!

To sum it all up, Van Der Sar was probably the best United player last night!

Also, we thank all the 180 fans who were present last night and made our event the huge success it was.

So Finally, It’s F.C Barcelona Vs Manchester United F.C!

    May 27th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Regardless of what you think, whoever you support, it will be Barcelona to face Manchester United in the final tonight - Rome, 2009. We believe both teams have been highly impressive this season and do deserve where they’re placed today, naturally Chelsea fans would disagree, never mind!

Man United have an efficient streak to go with their top notch side. They have a sturdy backline plus a tough midfield and needless to say an extremely strong front line. In many ways they are the ideal side to mount such a challenge. Added on, they have one of the best squads in the world, with world class replacements for most positions on the pitch.

Barcelona too look extremely strong since when you have Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto’ in attack supported by Lionnel Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, we don’t need to say much, do we?! A mind-blowing style of football, an excellent squad, and a world class young manager, together make them one of the strongest teams in the world!

Many have named this final - Messi vs Ronaldo. We don’t agree with that. There are many other battles to look for in this contest. Key amongst them could well be in the midfield. With Xavi and Iniesta, the Catalan side has the magical ability to put in the key pass for the likes of Messi, Henry and Eto’o. Their defence looks strong and has the steel and determination to break down opposition attacks. This could well be where Sir Alex misses Darren Fletcher, a player hugely improved from the one that used to make many wonder just what secret he had over Ferguson in order to continue to get the occasional start in the team. Paul Scholes could fill in but he has been pretty inconsistent this term and it will be for Michael Carrick to put in a good show to help minimize the Barca attacks.

It is one of those games which might end 3-3 or even end 0-0! Rest assured the match would be even and I believe the team making fewer mistakes would go through.

So who would it be? Who would sing Glory songs and who would go back home heart-broken?

Yes you can as you did throughout the season, come this way for all your Comments!

….As The Reds Go Marching On On On!! / The Curse Is Finally Broken-Heart Break For Chelsea !!l

    May 7th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

    Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United [1-4]

    Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona [1-1]

    Arsenal - Van Persie 76′(p)

    Manchester United - Park 8′ / Ronaldo 11′, 61′

    Chelsea - Essien 9′

    Barcelona - Iniesta (90+4)’

To start with, congratulations to Manchester United. Absolutely brilliant display of football. They proved it that they are the best team in the world and can overcome any side anywhere at any given point of time. The victory is definitely a triumph for Sir Alex Ferguson. We yet don’t know how and why certain people could even harbour the thoughts of a United failure and even we, who said after the Fulham game that United would win nothing but the Premier League are ready to eat humble pie.

But the one man responsible for putting life back into this United team which looked like it had lost steam was Crisitano Ronaldo. The man proved that he isn’t a one-season wonder. He proved it exactly why all the trophies are in his cabinet (and not Ibrahimovic’s or Messi’s) and he proved exactly why United can’t play as fluently and score as many goals as they do when he’s in form. Yes Rooney is the player of the season, yes Tevez’s work ratio is second to none and yes Giggs won the PFA Player of the Year award. But it’s this man who makes that difference in the United side. The difference that takes them to a completely new level. Obviously having their defence back in form makes a hell lot of a difference. But take a bow Ronaldo. Even if you never reach the level of sheer brilliance and immortality like your namesake, you will be remembered for a long long time. You will be a legend.

Getting back to the match, it was quite disappointing to see the way Arsenal played. Arsene Wenger’s - Project Youth has failed. There’s no point in executing something for five long years without any resultsand it’s about time Arsenal realizes that. You have disappointed your fans and deprived everyone of a classic clash of Titans. Watching the few Arsenal fans feeling dejected and cheated and insulted at the screening organized by Yours Truly, was extremely sad and we sympathize with all of them. A few of them even went too far on their ciggies and beer, but you couldn’t really blame them, could you? It was, as Evra said, Men Vs Babies.

Obviously the United fans cheered and jeered and made merry. United songs and chants were sung loud with every United fan on his/her feet. Happiest in the lot was an 11 year old kid, accompanied b his dad, dressed in a white united jersey.

Rob Van Persie’s 72nd minute goal was too late and too litle to give Arsenal any hopes. In fact, what was further disappointing was the fact that the goal wasn’t created by Arsenal but was a penalty given away by Fletcher who was sent off. The decision was certainly harsh and the mid-fielder will be missing the final.

Naturally most of us wanted to see a repeat of last years final and Chelsea fans would’ve relished a chance to take revenge against United. It all seemed to have come true until the 92nd minute when Iniesta struck Barcelona’s only shot on target past Cech into the Chelsea net.

Didier Drogba had a great chance to score early on but the Ivorian failed to control a through-pass from John Terry and deprived himself of a one-on-one situation with the keeper. Taking his quality into consideration, I believe he could have done better.

But the home fans only had to wait for nine minutes for their side to score. It was certainly one of the best goals of the season. A cross from Frank Lampard was blocked on the edge of the penalty area and Michael Essien’s volley from about 25 meters went in after first striking the top cross bar.

Barcelona continued to dominate possession but could not create a single chance. Drogba on the other hand had another opportunity later on, but this time keeper Victor Valdes was first to get to the ball and cleared. An abseloute rubbish finish! He could have ended the game for once and for all!

Barcelona gained strength in the second half but Chelsea’s defense seemed organised enough to avoid any big chances. In fact, Petr Cech had NO save to make throughout the game, apart from the one which he couldn’t obviously!

Things got more difficult for the Spanish guests when Eric Abidal ‘fouled’ Nicolas Anelka with a red card as result. However, it wasn’t even a foul since Anelka went to ground himself.

There was bad news for Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink too though as Brazilian defender Alex was booked for a foul on Lionel Messi in the 77th minute, and won’t feature in the final, nevermind!

During stoppage time, Messi found Andres Iniesta at the edge of the penalty area and the latter struck into the upper right corner to send his side through to the final against Manchester United, breaking all Chelsea hearts!

Chelsea however had ‘four’ penalty claims let down by the ref.

    Was this result fair?

Chelsea? Barca? Arsenal? United?——> UCL GLORY!

    April 28th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Finally, we’re coming close to the end of Europe’s most wanted trophy - the UEFA Champions League. The league which started with 32 teams and is now left with 4 - 2 of which have only reached the finals of the competition till date, having lost to the other 2 in the finals. Surely no one can argue that all four deserved to be where they’re. So who would it be? Who will be blessed with glory?

Come this way for all your Comments!

If there were two sides you might have guessed would be drawn against each other at some point or the other in this season’s Champions League, chances are they might have been Liverpool and Barcelona, two of our most familiar European opponents in recent years. After all the talk over the past few months of Barcelona’s history-making grand treble voyage, the final frontier is just on the horizon and they will face their first serious obstacle this Tuesday. It may not be the Champions League final yet but to stumble at home in the first leg of the semi-final face-off with Chelsea and they can kiss their treble desires goodbye. Also, they’ve Real Madrid coming up this Saturday, a trip to Stamford Bridge for the return clash next week, and a tricky meeting with Villarreal four days after that, Barca’s delectable season could turn very sour extremely quickly.

On the other hand, Chelsea themselves are in quite a difficult position. Having admitted they’re out of the Premier League, and having booked a berth in the FA cup final, their only way to put an end to their two-year trophy less drought in style is to overcome Barcelona. Winning a double, especially by beating teams like Liverpool, Barca, etc., is something highly respectable considering all the harsh criticism they had to face midway through the season and the sacking of Luiz Scolari. Champions League Glory is what Chelsea have craved for since years now and they couldn’t have asked for a tougher semi-final challenge to prove themselves and silence their critics!

The Blues have only lost once since Guus Hiddink took over. He has restored the team spirit and unity and also made his side more efficient and less vulnerable. Also after their stunning 3-1 win at Anfield against Liverpool in the first leg of the quarter-finals, the Londoners will be full of belief that they can win just about anywhere.

The Spaniards have insisted that they will not change their attacking style of play while Hiddink has promised not to sit back and attack. It’s Bosingwa. The man in charge of stopping the most feared player in Europe at the moment - Lionel Messi. This match is balanced and it could all come down to one mistake either way or even personal brilliance(again, read Lionel Messi).

Also, we wonder what effect ‘The Curse Of Real Madrid’ will have on this tie?

Since 2002 when Real Madrid last claimed the European Championship, in each season that has followed—six in all—whoever knocked the Spanish giants out of the competition has been defeated only by the eventual champions.

    1. 2003 Real Madrid Lost the Semi-Final to Juventus (Milan won the Cup beating Juve in the Final)
    2. 2004 Real Madrid Lost the Quarter Final to AS Monaco (Porto won the Cup beating Monaco in the Final)
    3. 2005 Real Madrid Lost the 1st knock-out round to Juventus (Eventual Winners Liverpool Beat Juventus in the Quarter Final)
    4. 2006 Real Madrid Lost the 1st Knock-out round to Arsenal (Barcelona won the Cup beating Arsenal in the Final)
    5. 2007 Real Madrid Lost the 1st Knock-out round to Bayern Munich (Eventual Winners AC Milan Beat Bayern in the Quarter Final)
    6. 2008 Real Madrid Lost the 1st Knock-out round to AS Roma (Eventual Winners Manchester United Beat Roma in the Quarter Final)

Chelsea surely have some crazy curse to back them up but who’d dare challenge the might of Barcelona this season. So will it be Barca or The Curse Of Real Madrid?

Sounds strange but United and Arsenal have never played in Europe before. History will be re-written as both teams would battle it out in the Champions League Semi-Final for the first time.

Arsenal have been in excellent form ever since they got skipper Cesc Fabregas back from injury. They weathered a rough patch, during which time they failed to score a Premiership goal in four consecutive matches. However, now they seem to be clicking on all cylinders offensively, and nowhere was that more apparent than their thrilling 4-4 draw with Liverpool.

Unfortunately, their new signing Andrei Arshavin is cup-tied and ineligible for this match. Even worse for the Gunners is that Robin Van Persie will miss out and of course, there’s the defense. Without former skipper William Gallas and mainstay Gael Clichy, Arsenal’s defense has been struggling. Ex United rubbish Mikael Silvestre has been a poor(read Rubbish!) substitute for Gallas and Bacary Sagna has been inconsistent since returning from his own injury. They also blew up the FA cup semi-final thanks to poor goal keeping and a defense which is more of a liability. They will have to rise up to the occasion and show great passion and dedication, especially since they’ll be facing a side which came from behind to score 5 goals in 22 minutes against a team that had been in great defensive form off late.

However, United themselves are not on a high either. After their 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford to rivals Liverpool, they seem to have lost their winning touch and are looking highly vulnerable. The fact that they needed such a comeback against Tottenham only emphasized their continuing defensive woes. Evra has been in terrible form which was clear after Lennon repeatedly made him look like a school boy. If Evra has problems against the younger and faster Theo Walcott, then Manchester United might need to make yet another epic comeback. They do have some positives about their side though. Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, and Dimitar Berbatov have started to show their awesome potential together and this  was visible when they shattered Tottenham last week. PFA player of the year Giggs too has been in good touch off late and Carrick too is a highly talented player.

So who will win between these four rivals? Will the young Gunners take their first step towards another Champions League Final? Or will Manchester United edge closer towards defending their title? Will Chelsea defeat Barcelona or are the Spanish giants too good for them?

Come this way for all your Comments!

    UCL Round-Up: Will It Be A Stale-Mate Or A Giant-Killer Affair?

    April 3rd, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

The last time these teams played each other in a UCL knock-out stage encounter was in 2004 in the round of 16 when Porto defeated United at Old Trafford to advance to the QF, Mourinho jumped and performed his now famous jig and Porto eventually won the UCL.

But that was 2004 and now it’s 2009 where United go into this encounter as defending champs. Agreed that they have now started developing cracks in their armor but this should be United’s game. This will not be a very difficult thing for United to do, however, it won’t be an easy one too. This game could ideally be termed as one of the potential ‘giant-killer’ games where you could have a major, major upset.

Obviously, for this to happen, Lucho Gonzalez will have to put on his best performance of the season and Bruno Alves will be required to perform just the way he has been this season. Also, Porto have never lost to an English team at home in a UCL encounter.

United have conceded 6 goals without scoring even one between them is a shock considering they’re chasing the ‘Quintuple’.

The real problem with United seems to be of momentum. Momentum is something that carries champion teams, performing averagely, to victories. Until last year United were winning and winning it good. They scored goals and defended pretty well, winning the games more beautifully. Surely the credit for this goes to Ronaldo’s 40+ goals which came with a lot of help from Rooney’s silent brilliance when on numerous occasions he passed the ball to Ronaldo for a tap in and Carrick’s brilliant passing.

It was last year’s momentum that United have carried on to this season which they unfortunately, at the most important phase of the season, seem to be losing. They don’t look like a team playing real bad football, they look like one which is losing steam. There’s a reason things aren’t going United’s way at the moment. To win the league is not always about playing the best football. Opposition teams will be desperate to beat the champions this time round and United need players who are willing to fight all the way. IF United want to win at least 2 out of the 3 remaining competitions they need Ronaldo to get his commitment, desire and most importantly Luck back! You may say he’s not half the player he was last season, but then if he can be, it would mean glory glory for Man Utd.

It also won’t be easy to score because they have a lazy-ass-good-for-nothing-chain-smoker up front with Rooney called Berbatov, who can do what he wants IF he wants to, but sadly WON’T do anything. And with Tevez and Rooney both preferring to play a supporter’s role SAF doesn’t have an option other than keeping his bum off the bench.

Frankly speaking, we don’t think United will win anything other than Premiership, but considering they are the only one’s with a rare chance to win all competitions this season, we hope they nail ‘em.

A lot of people may say that Arsenal should win this comfortably, but even Wenger would agree that they’d have rather played a bigger team than Villarreal. Because this is where unexpected stuff happens. This is definitely a ‘giant-killer’ game.

Villarreal, a team very strong on the ground, is probably one of the very few teams capable of opening up the Arsenal mid-field and creating chances. Arsenal should be glad that they’ll be with Eduardo, Walcott, Fabregas and even the forever injured Tomas Rosiscky for the second leg, at least. With
Eboue coming good, Song finally getting his groove and Vela and Diaby playing well, Arsenal can only face a problem of choice as a certain undroppable Van Persie and dynamic Samir Nasri will also be there.

But the one man they won’t have is Arshavin. And boy are Arsenal going to miss him badly. This is where we thing Arsenal lose the game. In this case what they should do is play Song instead of Denislon, because then they’ll at least have someone who can pass the ball ahead instead sideways.

Stoping Arsenal in their path are going to be Julio Ceaser - the brilliant Brazilian goalie and young Italian talent Rossi. But the one man Arsenal need to be wary off is a man called Robert Pires. We all know about the Arsenal curse and we bet he will score.

Even though Barca just had a minor slip-up for a month, everyone’s saying that if everything goes on with absolute normalcy, Barcelona will be easy winners. We say IF everything does go as it should, Barca might just have to wait another year for the UCL trophy.

Not getting carried away by their record breaking win against Sporting and they’re mediocre performances in the Bundesliga, we firmly believe that Bayern Munich is The side to look out for in this season’s UCL. They’re Not the dark-horse, as labeling them one will be under-rating a high potential strong side.

Just look at this - IF everything does go as it should, then you’ll have a tight game won by Bayern and Not Barca. And here’s how that will happen. The world’s best left-back at the moment - Philip Lahm will easily be able to block Messi - as most other defenders usually rush into him but Lahm is one cool man who waits for you to screw-up so that he can clear it off.
Lucio, Ze-Roberto and Van Bommel can, on any day, keep out Eto’o and Henry. Agreed Puyol, Marquez and Pique are brilliant defensively, but like the rest of the Barca side, they too, are weak in the air.

And when you have two crazy men, Scweinsteiger and one of the world’s most under-rated player Frank Ribery attacking you and feeding the likes of Luca Toni, who by the way is one of the strongest in the air, Podolski and Klose, you know no defence can do anything.

So just because Barcelona have been supremely dominating in the La Liga and are in the form of their existence, you know you can’t count the German heavy-weights out. And we all know how mentally strong the Germans are. This one’s definitely going to be a cracker!

Chelsea can count themselves really unlucky to be facing Liverpool during their current mood for liking for complete demolition. There’s probably no side in Europe who can defeat Liverpool right now. United will have to slip to lose the Premiership to Liverpool but the UCL seems to be surely be going to Anfield.

Considering they’re current form - 13 goals in the last 3 games: 4 vs Real Madrid, 4 vs United at OT and 5 vs Aston Villa with just 1 conceded, that too from the spot.

It’s not like Liverpool are playing great football, they’re just riding on sheer momentum. Momentum which actually comes a lot from the now famous and much envied ‘Champions League Luck’. They just don’t seem to be in a mood to stop and it’ll surely be a herculean task for any team to break that. And on current form, no team looks like it can do that.

And more so Chelsea - not a chance. Agreed they’ve got Essien back and Drogba back in form, it will take something really special to break a team which has Mascherano and Torres going completely crazy. A team which, as described by Zidane, has the greatest player in the world right now, Steven Gerrard. The biggest problem with Chelsea has been that they played almost the entire season without Essien and are still not playing to the strength of Drogba, something that has helped them to be extremely successful in the last 4-5 years. On the other hand Liverpool seem to be riding on a wave of absolute craziness, momentum and luck.

And frankly speaking, any team facing them before the finals in Rome will be unlucky, even if it’s a Bayern or Barca.

[Our wish-list: United clinch this along with the F.A. Cup and BPL and become the first team since Celtic in 1967 to complete a season with all trophies in the domestic circuit as well as Europe OR it's another Arsenal vs Barcelona final where Henry finally scores and wins the game for his side - which on this occassion will be Barca, and celebrates!]
