Rooney Rooney Rooney!

February 17th, 2010 by The Editor, EF24/7

Ideally this post should’ve been about last night’s game - Milan VS United and about Beckham’s fairytale re-union with father-figure SAF and boyhood club. Scoring their first goals away against Milan in more than 40 years of trying, Manchester United secured a monumental victory in the San Siro last night. But as I sat down, trying to gather words to describe United’s conquer over the Rossoneri At San Siro, trying to re-live one of the most entertaining matches in this years UCL. But all that could come to my mind was - WAYNE ROONEY!

Rather than a stonking, glorious, ruthless exhibition, the consensus amongst the purists is that Alex Ferguson’s men enjoyed the luck of the - presumably red - devil. And even the most loyal green-and-gold-eyed fan would have to concede they did have a fair share of fortune. They were fortunate that Paul Scholes can apparently shin the ball with more precision than most strikers, that the Milan full back Luca Antonini was lying injured on the touchline gifting Darren Fletcher the space to deliver a perfect cross for Scholes’s unorthodox equalizer, that never mind two, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, played as if in possession of three left feet.

The way he squandered chances during Milan’s early ascendancy, can it really be true that Arsene Wenger so desperately desires the Dutchman’s signature? After last night’s performance you’d have to wonder that if he does, it must solely be to make Nicklas Bendtner look a better player. And sure, they were lucky that Milan failed to make the most of a period in the first half when United’s defence played as if determined to give the ball away at every opportunity. Can you imagine Ronaldinho almost at his best for a good half-hour?

But most of all Manchester United had this enormous slice of providence: they had in their line up Wayne Rooney. Before yesterday’s game, Ferguson sharply reproached reporters for their constant praising of his forward. “You guys make out like he’s the greatest thing ever,” he mocked. Which only goes to prove that as far as the United manager is concerned the press can never do right. The trouble is, after watching last night it is hard to do anything other than lavish him with praise.

If you want to know how good Rooney was last night, imagine this: Read the rest of this entry »

Kaka Undergoes Real Medical?!

June 9th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

AC Milan playmaker Kaka has undergone a medical at the request of Real Madrid in accordance with the Brazilian Football Confederation. In accordance with certain reports, few Real Madrid directors and even the team doctor accompanied the exams. But as of now, there is no news on either Real’s or Milan’s official websites.

After claiming last week that he does not want to leave Milan, Kaka, who converted a penalty in Brazil’s 4-0 win in Uruguay on Saturday, has refused to discuss his future since joining up with the Brazil squad last Tuesday. As the situation stands, Kaka is most likely to sign for Real. However, we wonder why Chelsea is sitting back and not even trying to purchase the player they’ve wanted since years!

Ancelotti New Chelsea Manager! So Who All Will Follow The Boss?!

June 3rd, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Former Italian footballer and manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has joined Chelsea F.C and the deal ‘will’ keep him with the club for the next 3 years.

Ancelotti announced his resignation from Milan less than an hour following their 2-0 victory over ACF Fiorentina on May 31, 2009, after the club terminated his contract by mutual consent with one year remaining. The next day he was confirmed as the new Chelsea manager after agreeing to a £9-million contract. Ancelotti, succeeding temporary replacement Guus Hiddink, became the club’s fifth manager in 21 months, following Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Hiddink. He will also be the third Chelsea manager from Italy after Gianluca Vialli and Claudio Ranieri.

David Beckham Pays To Stay At Milan Until End Of Season. Any Regrets With United Visiting?

March 6th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

David Beckham will be staying at the San Siro till the end of this season. He is understood to have paid up to £3mn to extend his loan deal from LA Galaxy.

Under a unique “timeshare” agreement, the England midfielder will play for Galaxy between July and October before returning to Milan in November for the remainder of the Italian season. However, such was the financial gulf between Galaxy’s valuation and what Milan were willing to pay, that Beckham was forced to step in to break the impasse by funding an agreement himself.
The deal, which is is expected to be officially confirmed by the clubs in the coming days, follows weeks of negotiations between the two clubs during which Milan made it clear they were reluctant to pay the £12million transfer fee Galaxy were demanding. However, Beckham’s desire to remain at the San Siro, in order to improve his chances of playing in next year’s World Cup finals in South Africa, has effectively led to him funding the unique loan deal himself.

Adriano Galliani, the vice-president of AC Milan, refused to officially verify the deal but said he was “more optimistic” over the chances of keeping Beckham at the San Siro. Beckham moved to the Galaxy in 2007, signing a five-year deal. He does have an escape clause in that contract - which comes into effect in November, halfway through the term - but he would have to pay hefty compensation to exercise it. The agreement means Beckham misses at least 17 games of this year’s MLS season, and his return to the USA now looks set to be on July 18 at the New York Red Bulls.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed David Beckham’s decision to remain with AC Milan. Read the rest of this entry »
