Is Tottenham Still A Laughing Stock?

October 31st, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Tottenham Hotspurs, who still play football, grabbed a last-gasp equalizer through Aaron Lennon to achieve 1 point last night against the Gunners. Arsenal were initially trailing thanks to a stunning 40-yard David Bentley strike but later on went into the lead after William Gallas and Silvestere, yes Silvestere, scored for them. Adebayor hit another and Arsenal led 3-1. Darren Bent did pull one back for Spurs but Van Persie netted in his 50th Arsenal goal, making the scoreline 4-2.

However, Harry Redknapp’s first week in charge got better after both Jermaine Jenas and Lennon struck at the death to help Spurs clinch a point. It was a brilliant North-London derby and for Arsenal it can be termed as a loss of 2 valuable points. However for Spurs, 20th place must have never felt so good! After convincingly defeating Bolton last week, they have now drawn with Arsenal at Emirates. Tottenham’s confidence must right now be sky high. Players look much ready and much more up to face a challenge than they looked under Juande Ramos.

So are you still laughing at Spurs?

Tony Adams Joins Portsmouth For Two Years

October 28th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Former prisoner/footballer Tony Adams has been named new Portsmouth manager for a span of 2 years. Wednesday’s clash at Anfield would be the 42-year old’s first test as a PL manager. Tony Adams was extremely excited with his new job and is ‘ready’ to face this challenge. We do feel bad for poor (fat) Sam Allardyce who was one of the potential candidates for this post. However, he still hopefully has a job courtesy ESPN/STAR.

Scolari : ‘Players Didn’t Listen To Me’

October 28th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Waow! We haven’t heard a top manager say something like this before, have we?

In accordance with certain reports, Chelsea coach Luiz Scolari apparently claims that his players did not listen to him and continued playing long balls into the box. He said, “I didn’t want my players to play high balls. I don’t need them to put the ball in the box all the time. But they lost the confidence to touch the ball and were afraid of not changing the result.”

“I said to them ‘Look, try to keep on playing but they didn’t listen’.”

However, Scolari is now bothered about their clash with an in-form Hull City side and is hoping mid fielder Joe Cole returns to the side. Ballack and Drogba are still out for a minimum 10 days.

Liverpool End Chelsea’s SFB Dominance

October 27th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Finally a team has defeated the Blues on their home turf! Chelsea looked almost unbeatable at Stamford Bridge after their come-back against United this season. But they did not have an answer to Alonso’s 10th minute strike which some how found it’s way into the Chelsea net. However, Liverpool were brilliant throughout and did not allow Chelsea to dominate the game like they usually do. Deco did have some chances in the second period of the game but could not capitalize on any. Most of the credit for Liverpool’s performance goes to their defence and most importantly to Rafa Benitez. He out-smarted Scolari and his strategy worked. This is a massive boost for Liverpool.

Can this be their year?

Chelsea should be given credit for their magnificent 86-games unbeaten run, that lasted for 4 years and 8 months. It is indeed a very special achievement. Not only did the Blues surpass Liverpool’s previous best 63-games unbeaten streak but also knocked it out of sight by an additional 23 games, i.e. a 37% increase.

In all, 4 managers and 64 players contributed to this record:

Claudio Ranieri-6 games

José Mourinho-60 games

Avram Grant-16 games

Phil Scolari-4 games

The RECORD - 62 Wins / 24 Draws / 175 goals Scored / 44 Against

Their biggest win was the 6-0 demolition of Manchester City, 2007-2008 Season.

FINALLY! ‘Magic’ Juande Is Sacked ; Redknapp Gets A Better Team!

October 26th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Tottenham has parted ways with head coach Juande Ramos, who replaced Martin Jol last season. Tottenham’s performance this season has been disgraceful! This has been their worst start to the season ever. They are yet to win a game and have already played 8. Hence the sack was obvious. Along with Ramos, even assistant coach Gus Poyet is out of the club. However, under Juande, Spurs did go on to win the Carling Cup last season after defeating holders Chelsea in the final.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is expected to replace Ramos at White Hart Lane. Tottenham would have to pay Portsmouth £5m as compensation and Redknapp claims that the club ‘needs’ that money and his going to Tottenham would be the ‘best’ for all concerned. However, he still loves Portsmouth. Waow!

Liverpool To Be Sold?

October 22nd, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet are apparently looking for buyers for Liverpool Football Club. In accordance with certain reports, the American pair have instructed bank Merrill Lynch to search for interested parties. Sheikh Mohammed has for long been thought to be a potential buyer but certain negotiations are yet to be made between the two parties.

Robert Kraft, the man who the American pair beat to buy Liverpool last year, is also a part of the potential candidates. These are all rumours and nothing yet is certain.

So does Indian Businessman Anil Ambani, who was previously linked with Newcastle United, stand any chance of buying the club?

So For How Long Can ‘Magic’ Juande Survive?

October 20th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

After suffering yet another humiliating defeat in the premiership from their ‘relegation battle’ rivals Stoke, Juande Ramos’ job is now in danger. Tottenham lie last in the Premiership and just seem to get worse game after game. After 8 matches gone, this has been the worst league start for the club ever and Tottenham are giving tough competition to last year’s disgrace Derby.

So for how long can Tottenham remain content with one Carling Cup victory?

However, Tottenham players are still in favour of their manager and take blame for their abysmal performance. Senior defender Jonathan Woodgate claims that Juande will ‘hopefully’ remain boss and the players will stick by him. Waow!

Jo : ‘Man City Will Win The Premiership’ …..DREAM ON!

October 15th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Waow! Brazilian striker Jo claims that Manchester City will win the Premiership but admits that a challenge for the title this season will be a bit too early. Breaking into the top four has without a doubt been Manchester City’s top priority since the Abu Dhabi group take over and Jo believes that they have a realistic chance of doing the same.

It is surprising how he can dream about winning the BPL when City still can’t defeat teams like Wigan and gift away 2-goal leads. City’s only flash of brilliance yet has been their 6-0 demolition of Portsmouth and their first-half performance against Liverpool. However, calling City even title contenders so early would be foolish since the so called top four are indeed too good for them!

Torres : ‘Liverpool Can Win Both Premier and Champions League’

October 14th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Liverpool star Fernando Torres is confident that the Reds have the potential to win both the Champions and the Premier League this season. Torres accepted that winning either would be highly difficult and would require some top class football. The Spaniard believes that the ‘big four’ of England are currently the best in Europe. All of them have different but extremely effective styles of playing the game. Defeating Chelsea, Arsenal or United would be a tough task and Liverpool need to be at the top of their game if they are to finish first in England this season.

It’s too early to predict anything, but if Liverpool do go on to win the domestic league, it would be after a long 18-year wait.

Ferdinand To Captain England Against Kazakhstan

October 10th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

In the absence of John Terry due to a back injury, Rio Ferdinand will wear the arm band against Kazakhstan on Saturday at the Wembley. It was anyway doubtful that Terry will start, since the back injury also prevented him from being a part of the training.

So how tough will Rio be? Also, will Capello play Gerrard and Lampard together?

What the HULL is going on?!?

October 6th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Here, at eurofootball247.com, we warned you about Tottenham Hotspurs being the dark horse(er..that was at the start of the season!), we even told you about Villa moving silently up the ladder. But what we didn’t tell you, and perhaps no one did, was that Hull City Football Club are actually proving to be the ‘dark horse’ this season.

Nicknamed The Tigers, Hull City have taken everyone by surprise with their recent win-run. They started their campaign with a comprehensive win over Fulham. Drawing the next one and losing the one after that miserably did not demotivate them in any way, and they came back to win the next game against Newcastle United. Next was a draw at Goodison park and what followed can clearly be termed as the upset of the season - a win over Arsenal! That was clearly the Yorkshire club’s greatest win, surpassing all their victories prior to that. Recently they even beat the Spurs at home. For a club qualifying out of play-offs, because of which you don’t even have enough time to build a good team, this is certainly no mean feat. The squad has gelled very well, with Brazilian mid-fielder Geovanni coming into his own with brilliant performances. For a team playing in the toughest league in the world for the first time, being at the No.3 spot after seven rounds with 14 points and above Arsenal and Manchester United is not just commendable but definitely an achievement in every regard.

Established in 1904, The Tigers’ best achievement so far in any competition has been 3rd place in the FA Cup, that too way back in the year 1930!

Their manager Phil Brown has been on the hot seat since 2006. He has clearly worked very hard and has done a great job so far! Quite surprisingly, he was actually ’sacked’ at Derby County after a horrible seven month tenure. Well, Hull can surely count themselves lucky, with the Bolton Wanderers defender joining them the very next season as first, a joint care-taker and then immediately after four games, as a full time manager.

So will Hull City miraculously make it to the UEFA Cup next season or will they do a Wigan?
