Drogba Admits FA Charge

November 18th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Chelsea star Didier Drogba has admitted the Football Association Charge of violent conduct for throwing a coin at the Burnley fans during their Carling Cup game last week.

Drogba opened the scoring but Chelsea however went on to lose the game. Now the Ivorian faces a 3-Match-Ban for launching the coin at the away fans and reportedly does not plan to appeal against it. Didier even apologized after the game but now after already being restricted to five Premier League appearances, due to a knee injury, out of a possible thirteen, he would now have to spend some more time on the sidelines. However, we do wonder if it was entirely his fault since the coin should not have been thrown in the first place!

Real Look To Bid Schuster GoodBye

November 16th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Real Madrid played one of their poorest matches of the season for the first 75 minutes. If there was any doubt, Madrid is in as much a crisis as the American economy is in a recession. The team does not respond on the pitch to any challenge that their opponents give them.

Valladolid was suffocating throughout all of their lines. They gave a pallid Madrid less space and even less ability to perform the way they could. Let’s not doubt it, Madrid is going through a great deal of trouble on both ends of the ball and things got worse as soon as Fabián Canobbio put Valladolid on the board. The home side was able to hold on when their goalkeeper stepped up in a big way. When Madrid decided to play, they threatened and took the ball away. That led to very important opportunities that if cashed in, would have given the game a different look. Madrid looked to get bailed out by that last minute performance, but it would not be this time around.

There could be one more opportunity for Madrid to save Schuster and possibly their short-term success if they can get a win against BATE Borisov in the Champions League. If that match comes up negative (loss or draw) then Bernd Schuster could kiss the job adios.

According to one of Madrid’s ‘mouthpieces’, club board members have former Racing coach Miguel Ángel Portugal as the top candidate in the event the former German international does not satisfy his end of the ultimatum.   Another one that might have better standing at the club is Madrid idol Michel.

There is always the Juande Ramos option available after he signed his walking papers at White Hart Lane.

Real ‘Steal’ Goal, Continue Poor Form

November 9th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Real Madrid ’stole’ a goal after setting up a penalty after being 1-2 down in the first half of a dramatic match. Real Madrid players very sheepishly scooped the ball towards Weligton’s left arm, who was standing right on the edge of the box to set up a penalty. The decision, very much debatable, should have gone Malaga’s way but the clownish referee ruled in favour of Real Madrid who were just very, very lucky to get it. Real thus leveled the scores which then went on to help them win the game in a big way. Higuain, their lone striker scored all the four goals, to help them win the game 4-3. Malaga, who put up a brilliant show against a struggling Real at least deserved a point here. They can all but cry for the unfair deal.

Nasri Double Sinks Ordinary United

November 9th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

A ‘young’ Arsenal team have earned a deserved win against Manchester United at the Emirates, despite their absolute refusal to hold on to the ball and usual rubbish defending. Arsene Wenger finally got the result he so desired in order to hang on in the title race.

Samir Nasri netted twice, one in each half, to give Arsenal a win after three games, which included a loss at Stoke and a draw against Spurs, thus boosting their totally-shattered morale.

Arsenal played some brilliant football on occasions showing greater mental character than their arch-rivals. Arsenal broke the dead-lock in the 22nd minute when Nasri’s strike took a deflection from Neville and went past the keeper. His second goal was a brilliant strike from the edge of the box. United, despite of having seventeen chances at the goal managed to convert just one.

Youth again proved to be the flavour of the day as Rafael pulled one back for United in the dying moments of the game. Rooney, who had several chances, would be ruing his performance after his uncharacteristic misses which eventually cost United the game.

The hosts, who have been defending pathetically off-late, somehow managed to hang on till the end surviving the last six minutes after United launched a flurry of attacks on the Arsenal goal. This win certainly has boosted Arsenal’s hopes of keeping their title dreams alive and has sown the seeds of serious concern for SAF’s men. United now move a place behind Arsenal with a game in hand. If this is the way the champs continue to perform, losing or drawing their big games, they surely are no contenders for this year’s title race. After drawing at the Bridge and losing against Liverpool and Arsenal, United seem to be competing more with Villa and Hull than their arch-rivals. Even Hull City has a better record against the Big Four.

Arsenal should now look to win some silverware, after a four year long drought.

Elsewhere, Everton made a miraculous come back after being a goal down till the 80th minute to win the game 3-1. Ex-Man Utd striker Saha’s brace helped Everton win full points.

Liverpool on the other hand had an easy game against West Bromwich Albion winning their home encounter 3-0. Finally Robbie Keane scoring for the reds.

Grant - ‘I Love the Premier League’

November 7th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Waow! Chelsea sacked Avram Grant would apparently love to come back and manage in the premiership. He would relish the ‘challenge’ of retuning to the BPL.

Avram Grant replaced Jose Mourinho last season and took Chelsea to the Champion’s League Final. However, Chelsea lost in the Final to Manchester United and Grant lost his job after a trophy less season. But now the Former Blue’s boss is ready to return and wants to come back to the Premiership.

So would (Fat) Avram Grant ever get to manage a Premier league club?

Del Piero Kicks Real, AGAIN

November 7th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Nine times European and 32 times La Liga champs Real Madrid continued with their woeful run this season after suffering a shameless defeat at the hands of Italian giants Juventus.

Italian magician Del Piero once again proved to be Real’s nemesis. His brace left Real’s defence scratching their heads, his first being an emphatic strike to dampen the home side’s spirits after a sprightly opening from Schuster’s men was halted abruptly in the 17th minute. His second goal came from a free-kick from 25 yards and was a magical strike which he directed with deadly accuracy into the far corner of Casillas’s net in the 67th minute.

Juventus, who are not exactly comfortably placed in the Italian table, have now defeated the Spanish champs for the second time in a fortnight.

Real have not had a very pleasant start to their La Liga campaign as well. Their defence continues to struggle even against mediocre opponents, and with Pepe out with an injury, it doesn’t seem to get better any soon. Real have already conceded 13 goals, the highest amongst the top five teams in the La Liga table.
