Is Scolari Losing His Touch?

December 29th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

After a brilliant start to the season, Luiz Scolari now seems to lose his touch and Chelsea are slowly becoming quite like another Arsenal now. They have already had enough chances to go top of the table after slip-ups from Liverpool but they have failed to capitalize on any of them. They have only got 9 out of a possible 18 points from their last six games. This surely isn’t the way champions play! Chelsea under Jose, for that matter even under poor Avram Grant, had never lost a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge. Under Scolari, they have already lost 2 after just 20 games. Adding to their misery, they next travel to Old Trafford on Jan 11, 2009, and United seem to be high on confidence after their Club World Cup triumph.

The usual blank expression on Scolari’s face has off late become the talking point whereas it should be the football. Very often we see the Chelsea players having no idea what to do with the ball when they are trailing behind or drawing with a team, for instance their games against Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham, etc. Chelsea have completely lost their brilliant come-back abilities which they used to possess under Jose Mourinho. Rather, they seem like a helpless side who don’t know what’s going on once they’re losing. Also, Scolari’s substitutions till now have been below average. They are rather ineffective!

So has ‘Big Phil’ lost his plot?

Is This Finally Liverpool’s Year?

December 29th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Liverpool F.C have been on a role since a while now. They look steady at the top of the league, 3 points above rivals Chelsea and 10 above United, who however do have games in hand. Liverpool have been playing some decent football and in spite of Fernando Torres’ absence, they have been convincingly defeating opponents, for instance their 5-1 demolition of Newcastle United today. Rafa Benitez has had his plans well worked out and now the Spaniard is seeking to match his European success at the domestic level.

So would Pool finally break the 18-year long wait and bring a BPL title to Anfield?

Big Phil To Get The Boot?

December 17th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

This season has seen many managers losing their jobs that it’s not even very hard to think that Chelsea manager Scolari’s fate might take the same turn. With reports of unrest in the Chelsea dressing room intensifying, there are rumours that Big Phil might just go back to Brazil to replace the ever so unpopular Dunga. With Brazil FA supremo Teixeira already looking for a replacement, it’s quite evident he will consider Scolari.

Rumour has it that several senior players at the Bridge are unhappy with Scolari’s methodologies and have even questioned his substitutions many times. Lampard and Terry even asked why the training sessions aren’t as intense as they used to be under Jose and maintain that players are not fit enough to play upto Chelsea standards. Chelsea, under Scolari, has clearly had it’s worst start ever in four years and this has definitely sown the seeds of rifts between the players and the coach.

Scolari still enjoys the support of the Chelsea board and crucially Roman Abramovich and hence might not see the door so soon.

Is Berbatov The Thorn In United’s Attack?

December 17th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

We have always said that buying Dimitar Berbatov would cause more harm to United than good. And may be we were right. Considering a few United performances this season, we can safely say that they are having problems in scoring goals. Despite of having Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and now even Berbatov, they somehow don’t manage to net in the number of balls they should. Talking about the latter two, we always thought that the reason why United started weak this season was not due to the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo but because they decided to play Berbatov instead of their tried and tested man Carlos Tevez. Tevez, who proved his credentials in the 22 starts he got last season, was certainly given an unfair deal after Berbatov’s purchase. Berbatov wasn’t even the attacking striker and played in a play maker’s role jutting with the strikers which did not work out. Tevez proved us right when he scored four goals in the Carling Cup quarter-final against a full-strength Blackburn team. He’s also a more seasoned player at Old Trafford and should have been played more often. Keeping a player of his potential in the bench is an absolute waste. We won’t be surprised if he insists to leave United at the end of this season as he is actually being treated like Shevchenko.

You are also free to make fun of pathetic Kuczak.

How Bad Is Scolari?!

December 15th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

Five months into the season and we have Mr.Scolari as the manager of the star-studded-wannabe-world-beater club Chelsea FC. When he was appointed coach, comparisons were drawn between him and the ’special one’ Jose Mourinho. Big Phil, as he is known, was quick enough to say that he is just an ‘ordinary’ man here to coach the team. But we thought, why not compare the ‘ordinary’ guy with his actual predecessor, the stupid faced Avram Grant who never really said anything in the media like Jose did, like he ever made sense anyway.

Describe Juande Ramos’ Instillation As Real Madrid Manager. In 3 Words ONLY!

December 14th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

We all know how bad Bernd Schuster had been with Real Madrid. We all know how lucky he was to survive for a year and a half at Santiago Bernabeu where even someone as good as Fabio Capello could survive for only 8 months. And finally, we all were joyous to see him get booted of Real Madrid.

But now we, at EF247 would like to know what you think about a manager who was kicked out of an English club with a fairly good side for pathetic performance, getting the job at Santiago Bernabeu.
Remember, you have only 3 words to express yourself.

El Classico - Real Succumb To Barca Supremacy

December 14th, 2008 by The Editor, EF24/7

FC Barcelona 2-0 Real Madrid

Eto’o 83′ / Messi 89′

Real Madrid fought, they fought for as long as they could but sadly it came after a long spell of hopeless football and obviously couldn’t save them from going to down to Barcelona. Their rubbish football(read Defence) has been instrumental in their lacklustre performances off late and so has Bernd Schuster. But now he’s gone and there’s no point in complaining. All new manager Juande Ramos(again, this guy was KICKED out of a not so very big English club called Tottenham Hotspur) could do was to instill some sort of confidence into the famed Real defence which was seeing kicking Lionel Messi left-right-and-centre after the little Read the rest of this entry »
