So Are Chelsea Yet The Most Hated Club?

January 28th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

After strong competition from Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspurs and even unethical Real Madrid, Chelsea Football Club seems to now have lost the one league it has always topped in the past - The Most Hated Club League.

Manchester City now have reached new heights of disgust by offering a massive amount of £107m for a player who’s not even had a half good season! To offer a player £500,000 a week, never mind the currently prevailing global recession, is nothing short of ridiculous and immoral. Rather, for all we know, some of the people watching the City games, could barely spare enough money to buy themselves a ticket for the same! Why don’t the rich clubs use the money for something more constructive? Or how does helping the war-struck Gaza sound for an idea? It is a proven fact, money is spoiling the beautiful game. This is not only true in case of City, but also Real Madrid.

Talking about Tottenham, to start with, the way they (Redknapp) purchased Defoe was highly despicable! Obviously Portsmouth did not want to sell him! But off late, once a player makes his mind to leave a club, WHO the f*ck can stop him? It is not a secret that after having left Pompey, Harry is trying to drag all his ex-good Portsmouth players to Spurs. Why would a manager fall so low? For once, couldn’t he spare a thought for the well being of his old club, which also he quit?!

For a pleasant change, Chelsea (Abramovich) has not YET offered their millions to buy the stock of great players in the market, which they often do once they start losing games. Probably they seem to have finally understood the fact that money cannot buy a club trophies!

Again - It’s Liverpool 1-1 Everton

January 26th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Once again Everton have managed a draw at Anfield in the same week, this time the visitors scoring first. Now Liverpool would have to travel to Goodison park in order to settle this F.A Cup tie.

Everton scored first as Pienaar’s corner was headed goalwards by Cahill and Lescott deflected it past Reina. Steven Gerrard combined with Fernando Torres to score in the 54th minute. Pool did have enough chances in the second half but could not capitalize on any.

However, Rafa Benitez criticized Everton for employing negative tactics throughout the game and the Liverpool manager felt Everton had only come for a draw and that his team played extremely well. Moyes defended his team saying Everton only play with ‘dignity and style’.

We do have an interesting question for Mr. Benitez- Since he is a ‘great’ tactician, instead of crying after the game, couldn’t he simply speculate Everton would play a negative game (specially after last week’s draw) and prepare his team for the same?

After branding Everton as a “small club” last season, it would be hilarious if the same small club throws Liverpool out of the F.A Cup!

Man Utd Approach Sahara For Sponsorship As Dejected ManC Now Target Drogba, Henry

January 22nd, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Well it seems Manchester City is now linked with all the big names for reasons known to all of us. Apparently, all the big money this January has now turned it’s eye towards Drogba and Henry. After being rejected by Kaka (AC Milan), Given (Newcastle United), David Villa (Valenica) and EVEN Buffon (Juventus), they are now targeting Didier Drogba and Thierry Henry. We wonder how desperate can a club get? When will the Sheik understand that it’s not all about money and big names, you need to have a good manager in the place first who can attract these big names?! Clearly Mark Hughes is not doing a very good job!

Manchester City Will Change Football Forever, NOT REALLY!

January 21st, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Many fans believe Manchester City will change football forever, specially if the Kaka deal can go through. Well, for all those who believe this nonsense, football is not confined to one player or one club. No one is bigger than the game itself. Yes, quite certainly not even Kaka or City! Undoubtedly the deal would open the gate for various more stars to join the club and assuming City do make it to the top, it won’t yet ‘change’ football as we know it! Rather, we’ve learned from the past that a star-studded team often cannot achieve as much as a well-balanced one. Rich owners spilling massive funds to buy stars CANNOT change football. It’s not about the money, it’s about the game.

However, the style of football is changing constantly. Needless to say it differs from team to team. And one club buying (not yet) one player would not definitely change anything in the game. Although it might hopefully change City’s usual mid-table season finish. Also, we have to give some credit to Manchester City since it’s because of them websites and news papers off-late never fall short of writing material.

Bellamy Completes City Transfer

January 20th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Craig Bellamy, who was not present on Sunday when West Ham white washed Fulham 3-1, has as expected joined Manchester City, for an undisclosed fee. The wales international has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal and it is believed that City will pay up to £14m for the same. Importantly for city, Bellamy can play in the remainder of City’s UEFA cup campaign.

Bellamy is not really Kaka but his blistering pace and bags of enthusiasm would be more than essential for City to achieve their high flying targets. Meanwhile, a delegation of City officials is expected to meet AC Milan officials to finalize City’s bid for Brazilian star Kaka. Also, it is speculated that the deal might go up to a massive £108m, which quite certainly costs more than all the current City players put together (including Robinho).

AC Milan Confirm £107mn Offer, Kaka Authorised To Talk To ManC

January 16th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

AC Milan have confirmed a whopping £107mn transfer bid for Brazilian star Kaka. AC Milan, on their official television channel confirmed that they are ‘considering’ the deal. Mark Hughes had always maintained that the pursuit wasn’t carried out in a whim and now we all know why. Manchester City seem relentless in their approach to sign the Brazilian and have, well, almost forced Milan into submission. Hughes, reports suggest, has already started planning a 4-1-4-1 combination with another Brazilian star Robinho upfront. The next step now is that Kaka’s father will eventually talk to Manchester City. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Scolari Should Be Admired After United Hammering

January 16th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

One can’t even remember when Chelsea last lost by three goals to nil, which is what happened at Old Trafford on Sunday in what was a very important Premier League game. Since that crushing defeat Chelsea fans, according to reports, have been harbouring cynical thoughts towards their team’s chances to win the league after a great start to the season under new coach Big Phil Scolari.

Jose Mourinho was always going to be a tough act to follow, but the general consensus was that if anyone had a chance of pulling it off then it was the Brazilian. In the early weeks of the season, the press were full of praise for the new Chelsea; their players were free of their shackles and allowed to express themselves. The press were saying “Jose, who”?

However, since the turn of the year things haven’t gone well for the new coach and his team amidst talk of dressing room unrest, and so followers of Chelsea were not that surprised when United ran out comfortable winners at the weekend. The United result was damaging for Scolari and his team, the press have been predictably hovering and looking for reasons behind this slump. And The Joke Continues: Manchester City Offer £91mn For Kaka

January 15th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

For all those who had their doubts regarding Manchester City’s title ambitions, please clear them! They now have genuinely gone one step further by offering a massive £91m for Brazilian Super Star Kaka, who is however playing quite badly off late. City manager Mark Hughes is convinced the deal could go ahead. Various meetings involving Kaka’s agents and City officials are now anticipated. As per certain reports, Kaka would be paid an exorbitant £500,000 pounds a week.

After having already brought Robinho, we would not be surprised if Kaka is City’s next purchase. However, we do wonder WHY would the current City players even bother performing for the club when they know they would be either sold or dumped very soon!

Red Devils Give Chelsea The Blues

January 12th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

One of the worst nights for Chelsea Football Club has ended! They have been battered 3-0 by a highly motivated Manchester United side. Three crosses were enough for Chelsea to suffer their first away league defeat as they now find themselves just 1 point ahead of champions United, with United yet having the two games in hand (Wigan/Fulham). Even Jose Mourinho, sitting there with his usual arrogant I’m-the-best look, couldn’t stop laughing at the way Scolari’s men played. The game showed us all that Big Phil has an out-of-date team with basically nothing to back themselves up with. The wheels have certainly come off the ‘Stamford Bridge Steam Roller’ that used to be driven by Jose Mourinho. This was as comprehensive a win as can be imagined between title rivals. To borrow the cliché, Chelsea were lucky to get nil. They did not have a shot near target, let alone on it, and Edwin van der Sar was as much of a spectator as the watching Jose Mourinho. Even Avram Grant, on his first day as Chelsea in-charge, managed only a 2-0 loss that too with the stars missing. Chelsea can now concentrate on the one trophy they have always desired to win - the Champions League. Considering how awful they’ve been since the past few weeks, it is literally impossible for them to win the Premier League this season. However, miracles do happen!

Rafa Benitez, had prior to the game, tried to influence the referee when suggesting that United and Fergie get away with murder, well the tables have been well and truly turned and the pressure is now very much on the Spaniard and his title chasing pretenders.

It’s The Big One - Manchester United Vs Chelsea

January 10th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Sunday, the 11th of January, Old Trafford would once again host one of the biggest matches in the history of the game - Manchester United Vs Chelsea.

If the Blues do go on to win this one, they would go 7 points ahead of United. However, United would still have two games in hand - Wigan(H) and Fulham(A). Chelsea have been the most successful team at Old Trafford since 1989. They have won five and even lost five. The most recent win came in the 2004-2005 season where they demolished United 3-1 and went on to be crowned as League Champions.

A victory for United would see them 4 points behind the Blues with obviously the games in hand. United last played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the game finished a draw, with United leading for around for 80 minutes. However, United did go on to become the Champions League winners at the expense of Chelsea last season thanks to the unfortunate penalty miss by Chelsea skipper John Terry.

Ronaldo’s Ferrari Crash - A Few Whacky SMSs Doing The Rounds

January 10th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Well, a few days back Manchester United Star Crisitano Ronaldo obliterated his £200,000 Ferrari 599 GTB. Witnesses said his car was a “mangled wreck” – and police say it is a write-off. Ronaldo was travelling through a tunnel at Manchester Airport when he hit the wall – sending parts of the barrier flying across the dual carriageway. Fortunately(or unfortunately - as some of you may want to put it so) he was unhurt and will be playing in the clash against title rivals Chelsea. Reports are that he’s now shifted to his £140,000 Bentley!

There were a few messages doing the rounds, ridiculing this ‘tragedy’. So we thought of listing down the whackiest ones for you.

  • After smashing his Ferrari, police questioned Ronaldo about the incident. He blamed on the wall not being 10 yards back.
  • After smashing his Ferrari Manchester United coach SAF made Ronaldo practice taking corners again at training.
  • Witnesses at the scene of the Ronaldo crash say he was only lightly tapped by a car from behind, when all of a sudden the car flipped over and rolled ten times. It then spun around on the spot for two minutes, then all the wheels fell of and it caught fire.
  • Quick acceleration but crap control and struggles with corners. I think that idiot Ronaldo had his Ferrari custom made.
  • The strange thing about Ronaldo’s car crash is that, even though he only slightly injured his leg in the accident, he rolled out of the car clutching his head. Sounds very likely!
  • CR skidded on some oil and crashed his Ferrari 599 GTB. That was Rs.90 well spent.
  • Ferrari are not bothered about the credit crunch. Not as long as idiots like CR are allowed to drive.

You can add to this list if you have any whacky lines on the crash.

Defoe Set For Spurs Unveiling

January 7th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Jermaine Defoe would be unveiled as a Tottenham Player by tonight. Spurs have agreed a deal worth £15p (approx) for the England Striker. Defoe is just left to pass the medical and it’s certain that the 25-year-old will join Spurs for the second time tonight much to the delight of the supporters who had continued to chant his name during his unexpected sale to Portsmouth last season. Harry Redknapp said “I wouldn’t have sold him if I was manager at portsmouth.” Harry is also looking for a left-sided midfielder this January.

So would Stuart Downing too be on his way to Tottenham?
