Champions League Round Of 16 Kicks Off Tonight!

February 24th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Countless mini-battles will be fought tonight as Europe’s elite resume their battle for the silverware that matters the most to them - The UEFA Champions League.

It appears to be more of Italy vs England as Manchester United face Jose Mourinho’s Inter, Arsenal play Roma and even Chelsea play Italian giants Juventus. Former Chelsea bosses Mourinho and Ranieri, along with Juande Ramos, will be returning to England.

However, the most competitive clash in the lot seems to be Liverpool against Real Madrid. Villarreal have been drawn against Panathinaikos whereas French Champions Lyon will travel to the Camp Nou to face a high-flying Barcelona side.

SAF Dismisses Chelsea Title Hopes

February 19th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed all chances of Chelsea winning the title this season specially after Luiz Scolari was shown the door. Sir believes Liverpool are now their only competitors and Aston Villa never really had a chance.

Ferguson even pointed out the hastiness shown by Chelsea to get rid of some one with Scolari’s experience and fabulous past record. Sir said, “I was shocked that Chelsea should part so soon with a manager of such great experience and proven success as Scolari.”

Hiddink Set For Dual Job : Eager To Return ‘Favour’

February 11th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Russian manager Guus hiddink has said that he is expecting to be installed as Chelsea manager by next week. Hiddink has been given a go-ahead by the Russian FA to manage Chelsea till the end of the season. This emans that Hiddink will be handling both, the Russian national squad as well as Chelsea for a good four months.

The Dutch has said that he is eager to return the ‘favour’. Hiddink said,“Abramovich does so much for Russian football that I wanted to do something back”. This clearly indicates that Abramovich flexed his muscles to get Hiddink on board and ensure a UEFA Chamions League berth for next season, at least.

Scolari Shockingly Sacked …. Hours After Adams Booted From Portsmouth

February 9th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has been sacked after just 7 months in charge. Even though Chelsea’s poor run, especially at home was a serious cause for concern, and the growing discontent in the dressing room did give us a hint of something dramatic happening at SFB sooner or later, the sacking of the Big Phil still comes as a major shock.

The 2002 WC winning coach joined Chelsea at the start of this season and was immediately hailed as the better one, during comparisons with Mourinho, after a string of brilliant performances. But as the season progressed Chelsea started to lose their steam. Reports of disharmony within the dressing room grew and it showed in Chelsea’s on field performances. Read the rest of this entry »

What Would An Everton Fan Now Say To A Liverpool One? In 3 Words ONLY!

February 6th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

The second leg of the Mersey side derby ended 1-0 in Everton’s favour. After having drawn with Liverpool twice in the same week at Anfield, Everton now have, as we rightly predicted, thrown them out of the F.A cup now.

Liverpool, who were on fire after defeating Chelsea 2-0 thanks to some great refereeing by respected Mike Riley, are no more in the F.A Cup.

So what would an Everton fan want to say to a Liverpool one now? Unfortunately you just have 3 words to express yourself but fortunately you are being blessed by our wonderful tips which might help you with this one!

-Rafa Benitez last year branded Everton as a small Club. We’re sure he feels quite bad being removed from the competition from the same small club.

-Liverpool will NOT win the Premier League.

-Adding on to their misery, they face Real in the pre-quarters of the Champions League.

Either Arshavin Just LOVES Arsenal Or He Is An Illiterate!

February 6th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Sources in Zenit St.Petersburg claim that the Russian superstar was paid an astounding £100,000 a week whereas Zenit’s official Annual report says he was just paid £50,000. Well, considering the immense rotation of money (black/white) in Russia, we wouldn’t be surprised even if Zenit actually paid their superstar that much! Arshavin will be paid £70,000 at the Emirates. Taking a massive pay-cut of around £30,000 a week, during this uncomfortable phase of recession, is not a very wise thing to do! Also we have to take into consideration that Arshavin now moves to the second costliest city in the world - London, where land alone costs more than an entire living in Russia! We yet remember how German captain Micheal Ballack once cried about how costly this city was, in spite of earning a massive £130,000 a week. He in fact was just moving in alone whereas Arshavin moves in with his wife and two boys. The 27 year old surely had a tough time with numbers at school!

Should The January Transfer Window Be Discontinued?

February 5th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

January is the month when all the leagues are at a highly interesting stage since half of the matches have been played in most of them. Hence, all teams know exactly where they stand and how much they need to improve in order to survive or win silverware. However, with the existence of the winter transfer window, clubs can always rely on money rather than hard work. For instance, if a club is doing horribly before Jan, it would suddenly buy 10 new players and things would change. The January transfer window can be defined as a better way of buying silverware rather than earning it!

So Was It Just Mike Riley Who Sucked?

February 2nd, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Chelsea Football Club’s record against the ‘top four’ this season has been extremely pathetic and highly embarrassing. So bad that they even lost to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge! Surely they are not going to win the BPL this season, neither are they looking strong enough for the Champions League.

Fernando Torres scored for the first time since October, 2008 but it was enough to effectively throw Chelsea out of the title race. Assuming United do win their game in hand, they would be 8 points ahead of Chelsea. Considering their rubbish form, clearly Chelsea have no chance of going past United, even if all the 38 games were to be played again!
