F.C Barcelona Defeat United In The Champions League Final! Win Historic Treble!

May 29th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Manchester United have been comprehensively defeated by Barcelona in te final of the Champions League, Rome. After defeating Chelsea last year at the same stage, United could not go on to win the competition twice in two years.

Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi scored the goals either side of half-time but to single those two out for special praise would be unfair on their team-mates, and particularly Xavi, who was simply awesome.

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo was very average. He lacked skill, determination and got increasingly frustrated every time he lost the ball, not that he ever had much of it to lose it!

To sum it all up, Van Der Sar was probably the best United player last night!

Also, we thank all the 180 fans who were present last night and made our event the huge success it was.

So Finally, It’s F.C Barcelona Vs Manchester United F.C!

May 27th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Regardless of what you think, whoever you support, it will be Barcelona to face Manchester United in the final tonight - Rome, 2009. We believe both teams have been highly impressive this season and do deserve where they’re placed today, naturally Chelsea fans would disagree, never mind!

Man United have an efficient streak to go with their top notch side. They have a sturdy backline plus a tough midfield and needless to say an extremely strong front line. In many ways they are the ideal side to mount such a challenge. Added on, they have one of the best squads in the world, with world class replacements for most positions on the pitch.

Barcelona too look extremely strong since when you have Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto’ in attack supported by Lionnel Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, we don’t need to say much, do we?! A mind-blowing style of football, an excellent squad, and a world class young manager, together make them one of the strongest teams in the world!

Many have named this final - Messi vs Ronaldo. We don’t agree with that. There are many other battles to look for in this contest. Key amongst them could well be in the midfield. With Xavi and Iniesta, the Catalan side has the magical ability to put in the key pass for the likes of Messi, Henry and Eto’o. Their defence looks strong and has the steel and determination to break down opposition attacks. This could well be where Sir Alex misses Darren Fletcher, a player hugely improved from the one that used to make many wonder just what secret he had over Ferguson in order to continue to get the occasional start in the team. Paul Scholes could fill in but he has been pretty inconsistent this term and it will be for Michael Carrick to put in a good show to help minimize the Barca attacks.

It is one of those games which might end 3-3 or even end 0-0! Rest assured the match would be even and I believe the team making fewer mistakes would go through.

So who would it be? Who would sing Glory songs and who would go back home heart-broken?

Yes you can as you did throughout the season, come this way for all your Comments!

Once again a non-English club lifts the UEFA Cup. So are England’s UEFA Cup teams simply pathetic or is it just that other leagues have extremely good teams, well at least at the slightly lower level?!

Barcelona Crowned Spanish Champions As Inter Win Italian League

May 18th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Barcelona were crowned Spanish champions for the 19th time on Saturday as holders Real Madrid gifted the title to their rivals after a 3-2 defeat at Villarreal.

Anything other than a win for Real would have made Barcelona lift the title but Juande Ramos’s side crashed to a third straight loss to hand the title to Barcelona.

It’s their second trophy in four days, following their Kings Cup win over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, as they notched a league and cup double for the first time since 1998.

The Catalan giants can become the first Spanish side to win the treble if they can overcome Manchester United in the Champions League final in Rome on May 27.

Can they win a treble?

Come this way for all your Comments!

Lying seven points behind their city rivals Inter with three games remaining, Carlo Ancelotti’s men knew anything less than victory at Udinese would hand the title to Inter.

But Udinese had their own ambitions to fulfill - a win would maintain their hopes of a European League place next season, and they achieved a well deserving victory.

Thus Jose Mourinho continued his magic and won the first Italian title of his career. Surely he must be looking forward to make a statement in the Champions League now!

Manchester United 18-18 Liverpool!

May 18th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Manchester United have clinched their 3rd consecutive Premier League Title after drawing 0-0 with Arsenal at Old Trafford. They’ve now equalled Liverpool’s record 18 league wins.

SAF’s side were well below their best in a surprisingly subdued encounter. A point was all they needed, equalling the record set by Liverpool in 1990.

United, who also have the Champions League final against Barcelona on May 27 to look forward to, have now won the Premier League 11 times in 17 seasons and will become the first English top-flight team to lift the title in four successive campaigns, i.e. of they’re to win it next year.

The Two Faces Of Cristiano Ronaldo … ?

May 14th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

There were two interesting things that happened with Cristiano Ronaldo in the game against Wigan last night.

The first, not mentioned in press reports or on the commentary, was that he was really putting a shift in. He closed down the keeper, harried opponents, shifted his position if the ball didn’t go to him directly. He was no Rooney, but coming after his alleged dressing-room dressing-down, the change was noticeable and probably significant. Come the end of the game, what was also apparent, was that his little tantrums were not being acknowledged by his team-mates. In the past, they may have raised a hand, or disagreed with him - last night, there seemed to be a consensus not to rise to it. Read the rest of this entry »

Arsenal To Spend Big In The Summer? Source=Usmanov!

May 14th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Alisher Usmanov could be ready to help Arsenal pay off some of their debts in a bid to help them challenge for domestic as well as European glory. Usmanov is curretly Arsenal’s highest stake-holder holding 25% of the total shares. Certain reports suggest that he has asked the club to start spending and has hinted financing their transfer dealings. Debts associated to Arsenal’s move from Highbury to the Emirates are understood to be a factor in the club’s transfer budget and it is a factor Usmanov seems willing to help ease, provided he’s approached.

Tevez: I Haven’t Been Treated Like Family At Old Trafford!

May 10th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

The much silent and to-himself Carlos Tevez has spoken, finally. And the words that come out of his mouth are definitely not what United fans wanted to hear, but perhaps were expecting.

We were waiting to put up a story on the brilliant Argentine forward but the absolute dullness and the some-what predictability of the topic stopped us from doing so. Looking at how Carlos Tevez handled the entire matter so well and so graciously till now, we were quite surprised to read the morning headlines.

Not that Tevez spilled any venom and had even an iota of hatred or disgrunt in his words, but hearing something from that end surely was a surprise.

Tevez said, I am very sad about this but I guess what I’m saying is goodbye. I don’t think I will be a Manchester United player next season. I have done everything I possibly can but they have never made me an offer or given me a contract so I have to leave.

I think I will be at another club next season. I have not been treated as a member of the family. I do not feel wanted. I feel bad over my situation, I do, but it’s very, very difficult to stay any longer.

The fans treat me like family but United have not signed me so they do not respect me as a footballer. Tevez feels his form has been good this season but has been frustrated at not being considered a first-team regular by Sir Alex Ferguson. Read the rest of this entry »

Chelsea Fans, Would You Want Drogba To Be Offloaded?!

May 10th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Let’s be frank, he has lost the touch he used to possess and can rightly be termed as a walking PR spoiler after his post-match actions against Barcelona.

Clearly the Ivorian has upset many after his actions after the game and clearly did not impress any during the game. Some would claim it only shows his passion and determination towards the club while some might call it a smart way to help fans forget his misses during the game which did have the potential to kill the game, but if only they were taken! You know which side you fall under!

….As The Reds Go Marching On On On!! / The Curse Is Finally Broken-Heart Break For Chelsea !!l

May 7th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United [1-4]

Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona [1-1]

Arsenal - Van Persie 76′(p)

Manchester United - Park 8′ / Ronaldo 11′, 61′

Chelsea - Essien 9′

Barcelona - Iniesta (90+4)’

To start with, congratulations to Manchester United. Absolutely brilliant display of football. They proved it that they are the best team in the world and can overcome any side anywhere at any given point of time. The victory is definitely a triumph for Sir Alex Ferguson. We yet don’t know how and why certain people could even harbour the thoughts of a United failure and even we, who said after the Fulham game that United would win nothing but the Premier League are ready to eat humble pie.

But the one man responsible for putting life back into this United team which looked like it had lost steam was Crisitano Ronaldo. The man proved that he isn’t a one-season wonder. He proved it exactly why all the trophies are in his cabinet (and not Ibrahimovic’s or Messi’s) and he proved exactly why United can’t play as fluently and score as many goals as they do when he’s in form. Yes Rooney is the player of the season, yes Tevez’s work ratio is second to none and yes Giggs won the PFA Player of the Year award. But it’s this man who makes that difference in the United side. The difference that takes them to a completely new level. Obviously having their defence back in form makes a hell lot of a difference. But take a bow Ronaldo. Even if you never reach the level of sheer brilliance and immortality like your namesake, you will be remembered for a long long time. You will be a legend.

Getting back to the match, it was quite disappointing to see the way Arsenal played. Arsene Wenger’s - Project Youth has failed. There’s no point in executing something for five long years without any resultsand it’s about time Arsenal realizes that. You have disappointed your fans and deprived everyone of a classic clash of Titans. Watching the few Arsenal fans feeling dejected and cheated and insulted at the screening organized by Yours Truly, was extremely sad and we sympathize with all of them. A few of them even went too far on their ciggies and beer, but you couldn’t really blame them, could you? It was, as Evra said, Men Vs Babies.

Obviously the United fans cheered and jeered and made merry. United songs and chants were sung loud with every United fan on his/her feet. Happiest in the lot was an 11 year old kid, accompanied b his dad, dressed in a white united jersey.

Rob Van Persie’s 72nd minute goal was too late and too litle to give Arsenal any hopes. In fact, what was further disappointing was the fact that the goal wasn’t created by Arsenal but was a penalty given away by Fletcher who was sent off. The decision was certainly harsh and the mid-fielder will be missing the final.

Naturally most of us wanted to see a repeat of last years final and Chelsea fans would’ve relished a chance to take revenge against United. It all seemed to have come true until the 92nd minute when Iniesta struck Barcelona’s only shot on target past Cech into the Chelsea net.

Didier Drogba had a great chance to score early on but the Ivorian failed to control a through-pass from John Terry and deprived himself of a one-on-one situation with the keeper. Taking his quality into consideration, I believe he could have done better.

But the home fans only had to wait for nine minutes for their side to score. It was certainly one of the best goals of the season. A cross from Frank Lampard was blocked on the edge of the penalty area and Michael Essien’s volley from about 25 meters went in after first striking the top cross bar.

Barcelona continued to dominate possession but could not create a single chance. Drogba on the other hand had another opportunity later on, but this time keeper Victor Valdes was first to get to the ball and cleared. An abseloute rubbish finish! He could have ended the game for once and for all!

Barcelona gained strength in the second half but Chelsea’s defense seemed organised enough to avoid any big chances. In fact, Petr Cech had NO save to make throughout the game, apart from the one which he couldn’t obviously!

Things got more difficult for the Spanish guests when Eric Abidal ‘fouled’ Nicolas Anelka with a red card as result. However, it wasn’t even a foul since Anelka went to ground himself.

There was bad news for Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink too though as Brazilian defender Alex was booked for a foul on Lionel Messi in the 77th minute, and won’t feature in the final, nevermind!

During stoppage time, Messi found Andres Iniesta at the edge of the penalty area and the latter struck into the upper right corner to send his side through to the final against Manchester United, breaking all Chelsea hearts!

Chelsea however had ‘four’ penalty claims let down by the ref.

Was this result fair?
