Zlatan = Eto’o + 40mP + Hleb = Cristiano Ronaldo!!

July 31st, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Is Zlatan Ibrahimovich, the man who just scored the most numbers of goals in the least elite of Europe’s elite leagues, where even Mickey Owen with all his pace would’ve been considered God, the man who’s a self proclaimed prodigy, the man who faltered on the biggest stage of club football(UCL), worth as much as THE Best Player in Football?
I don’t think so.

But looking at what Barca have paid for him he certainly does become that! Ibrahimovich is no exceptional talent. yes, he’s very very good. But does he come in the same league as the Ronaldos(both i.e.), Zidanes, Messis, Kakas? Not at all. Barcelona have just given away a man who banged in 30+ goals, a midfielder who’s beautifully gifted and a bag full of insane amount of cash. All this for someone who’s just the top scorer in one of the slowest leagues in Europe.

This actually accounts for the stupidest piece of business in the last few years. Agreed there have been very outrageous sums paid for players not worth even half of the price, like Johnson to Liverpool for £18m, Crouch for £10m, Adebayor, Tevez for £25m each!

The Cristiano Ronaldo transfer has actually had some bad effect on the market. Players with just a few good performances have been insanely over-hyped. Clubs have started demanding outrageous amounts - Kun Aguero £40m, Ribery £80m. But this one(Ibrahimovich > Barca) has certainly taken the top slot, both for the transfer of the season and the worst transfer of the season(going by the money involved!)

Spurs Sign Peter Crouch For £10m / Eto’o, Zlatan Agree 5-Year Deals With Inter, Barca

July 28th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

The world is going insane. The footballing world that is. Tottenham Hotspur have signed ex-Spur, Liverpool player/tower Peter Crouch for £10m from Portsmouth. The Spurs have known to be smart/lucky businessmen. They sell a player for a high price and buy him back in a season or two at nearly half the recieved amount (point in case - Keane, and they even got £30m for a certain Berbatov).

But this time they have done exactly the opposite - they’ve bought a player who in my opinion, isn’t even worth half his weight in ash!

Also, the story of Eto’o and Zlatan switching clubs, which in my opinion was a bad joke has turned out to be absolutely true with both of them signing 5 yr contracts with their new clubs. It’ll be interesting to see How Zlatan - the self proclaimed North South East West will fit into the best squad of the world. Being the most over hyped striker in world football can have its repercussions, and Zlatan in my word Will suffer.

Talking about Eto’o, it’s quite certain that Jose wanted someone to bang in some goals rather than keep yapping about himself. Also maybe because he was missing Drogba. But a great deal for the special one - a striker who just banged in 30 goals and was part of a treble winning squad And a wonderful gifted creative midfielder Alexander Hleb.

Adebayor Joins Manchester City For £25m, Wenger Not Looking For A Replacement! Surprised?

July 19th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Emmanuel Adebayor has joined Manchester City for an undisclosed fee which is supposedly around £25m and the deal would keep him with the blues for 5 years. Adebayor has been City’s fourth big signing this summer after Tevez, Barry and Santa Cruz. A delighted Mark Hughes said, “Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the
Premier League since he arrived from France and we are delighted he has
agreed to come and join us.”

However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in no hurry to replace the 25-year-old, meanwhile, Eduardo and Rosicky return. Wenger said, “We’re not on the verge of signing anybody but I’m able to spend the money if we find the right players. We’re not in a hurry because we have a big squad. We’ll see in pre-season if we need to make any additions.”

We do not think many Arsenal fans would mourn Adebayor’s exit since he was looking for a move abroad since last year hence a switch was always expected. But knowing they’re the weakest in the top four and knowing City will challenge their CL spot next year, it’s more like Arsenal have sold their goal-scoring striker to their biggest rivals! But that only time can tell. However, we cannot forget that selling Adebayor increases the chances of Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh joining the gunners.

So has Wenger done the right thing by selling Adebayor or is this the beginning of the end of the ‘top four’?

Excellent! Now ManC Want JOHN TERRY! But Carlo Claims He’s Not For Sale!

July 7th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Great! John Terry is now the new Manchester City target and they’re also willing to offer him a massive £200k a week! Although Chelsea boss Ancelotti has confirmed that JT is not going anywhere and that he’s ‘priceless’, City are, in accordance with certain reports, set to make a final offer of £35m for the superstar. Ancelotti said: “John Terry is a symbol of this team and he will be captain next season. He said he wants to stay forever and we want to keep him forever. Terry will remain at Chelsea.”

Meanwhile, the Italian has confirmed that Russian winger Zhirkov is now a Chelsea player and so is Manchester City youngster Sturridge.

But we do wonder why would City bid for someone as loyal as Terry?! Or do they just love being rejected? They have been rejected by countless players already but still don’t give up! They AND Madrid need to realize the fact that still there are certain players out there who play with their heart and not for their wallets!

Is The Micheal Owen Transfer That Bad For ManUtd?

July 6th, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

It’s been a few days since the Mickey Owen transfer to Old Trafford has taken place but it seems the world just can’t get over it. Agreed he was available on a free transfer and that he would happily come for a lot less than the £110,000-a-week wage bill. Last night at the coffee shop i heard a few lads say that now even Baichung Bhutia is looking for Sir Alex’s address. I mean from the best in the world to the worst in a span of a month!?

But hey, what’s exactly wrong with that. Look, I’m not totally supporting the move but here’s what i have to say.
So, you’re Sir Alex and you’re just coming off of a season where you’ve lived through three (OK, four) strikers (you have to include CR as a striker) complaining about playing time and generally making your life miserable.  Looking at their resumes, you can’t really blame them.  The World Player of the Year.  The “Best English Striker of his Generation”, The big summer acquisition, and the high profile South American with the big reputation.  Throw in some up-and-coming youngsters and you really have some selection headaches.

Assuming you really didn’t have a choice about CR leaving - you can say anything you’d like about his attitude, etc. but you don’t let him go for any amount of money unless you don’t have a choice - and you didn’t really try too hard to keep Carlito around, you really have to figure that a decided change of strategy was in order. My Game Is Fair Play, Isn’t it? Then Why Is The Salary Cap Not Being Introduced?!

July 3rd, 2009 by The Editor, EF24/7

Over and over again, we’ve seen money spoiling our beautiful game. To start with, the Introduction of Ronaldo, Kaka and now Benzema in the same team which already has stars like Raul, Robben, Casillas, Van der Vaart, RVN, Ramos, etc. is just another way of buying a trophy! It would definitely be harder for Real to not win any kind of silverware next season than win it!

If FIFA expect teams to play fair, how is this being allowed then? In simple words, why don’t they introduce a salary cap in order to achieve financial stability? With clubs like Real, City, etc. dominating the transfer market with their excessive funds, it is FIFA’s responsibility to introduce a salary cap since it is the most ideal way to restrict clubs from becoming bigger than the game itself! Or how about they introduce something like a club only being allowed to spend as much as they earn?
