Coleman wants Wales extension before Euro 2016

Wales boss Chris Coleman wants to extend his contract with the Welsh FA before Euro 2016 this summer.

Coleman will lead Wales in France as they make the journey to a major international tournament for the first time since 1958.

They grabbed their spot at Euro 2016 having finished as runners-up behind Belgium in qualifying, suffering just a solitary defeat in 10 games along the way.

Coleman took charge of Wales in January 2012 following the untimely passing of former boss Gary Speed.

With his current deal set to expire this summer, the 45-year-old would like to complete negotiations before Euro 2016 kicks off for Wales against Slovakia in Bordeaux on June 11.

“Ideally we’ll know what we’re doing before we go to the tournament so everybody is settled,” said Coleman.

The former Real Sociedad and Fulham boss is expected to sit down with Welsh FA chief executive Jonathan Ford and president Dai Griffiths to discuss whether to extend his four-year stint as Welsh boss in the coming weeks.

Coleman has created a genuine air of optimism around the Welsh team going into the European Championship.

The outstanding form of talisman Gareth Bale means many neutrals are viewing the Welsh as potential outsiders for success in France.

Alongside Slovakia, Wales will face Russia and a mouth-watering tussle with neighbours England in Group B at Euro 2016.

Wales are 2.30 to win their opening game against Slovakia.
