Rose setting sights on Euro place

Tottenham left-back Danny Rose is targeting a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad this summer after being invited to a team meeting in February.

Hodgson called a squad meeting last month at St George’s Park in an attempt to discuss his plans ahead of the European Championships in France, which get underway on June 10.

Around 40 players turned up, but Rose nearly missed out on the get-together as he had changed his phone number.

Rose was a regular for England Under-21s but he has yet to earn a full England cap, despite several call-ups in the last 18 months.

The 25-year-old has once again impressed for Spurs this season and he is now confident that he can make an impact for his country later this year.

“I changed my phone number last year, and the lads were talking about the meeting and I didn’t know anything about it,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“The day before, the people from FA texted me and asked me if I was coming, and I was like ‘what meeting?’

“It was a big shock for me. For other players it might have just been a meeting, but for me it was a lot more. It shows I am maybe in the plans.

“I’m 25 now and not made an appearance yet for my country, but that’s the aim for everybody. Hopefully I can keep playing well until the next time England meet.”

Rose will be hopeful he can be part of Hodgson’s squad for the two friendlies against the Netherlands and Germany this month as the former Fulham and West Brom boss tries to finalise his plans ahead of Euro 2016.

England are currently priced at 11.00 to win the event in France.
